About Us

We love food. We love growing and sharing our favorite things with you. So much of modern produce has been bred for uniformity and ease of transit, so that it can be easily packed and shipped across the world. The result is that you often get less flavorful, less fresh and less nutritious food than you should. We grow our food just a few miles from you, in the rich Wisconsin soil. We select our varieties for taste and nutrition, as well as beauty and suitability for our climate, and pick them at peak ripeness.

Your farmers

Molly is an organic farmer, a florist, a food lover, small business owner, a plant whisperer and animal caretaker. She’s also had a career as a journalist. John is an educator and activist. He grew up on a farm in central Minnesota with parents who were “back to the land” types, striving to be self-sufficient by cooking & heating with wood, growing much of their own food, and living as lightly on the planet as possible. Together, we operate Yellow Dog Flowers and Produce in Brooklyn, Wisconsin.

The Yellow Dog farm

Our farm is a beautiful oasis in the gently rolling hills of Green County, the edge of the Driftless Region. We use only organic methods on our farm: building soil tilth through cover cropping and composting, providing habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects, birds and bats, rotating our crops to minimize disease, using reusable fabric to keep weeds down, planting a multitude of species to keep genetic and biological diversity alive, and generally working with and learning from nature. It’s hard work, but it’s beautiful and honest and absolutely necessary.

In addition to our main vegetable and flower fields, we have herb plantings and perennial flowers, a small but growing fruit and berry orchard, a peony field, prairie plantings, hayfields, a hoophouse, a few dozen laying hens, Shetland wool sheep and two lively yellow dogs, Honey and Peanut.
